Our Fees

We understand that seeing a psychologist can feel daunting and bring up a lot of questions, so we want to make this process as comfortable and transparent as possible. If you have any other questions that aren't answered here or in our FAQs, please get in touch.

What to Expect

Initial Appointment

The first session is a clinical assessment that usually runs for 50 minutes. The aim is to get to know you, gain a good understanding of your concerns and needs, and explore your goals for therapy.

During the assessment, Dr. Amy will ask you about your:

  • Current difficulties and life circumstances

  • Personal history e.g., relevant family, medical, and social information

  • Past treatment and goals for therapy

She may also ask you to fill out additional questionnaires about your experiences and symptoms. At the end of the session, treatment options (e.g., therapeutic approach and frequency of ongoing sessions) will be discussed with you.

Subsequent Appointments

All subsequent sessions run for 50 minutes. These sessions maintain a balance of helping you gain insight and understanding into your difficulties, and learning new skills and strategies to manage these difficulties.

Most people find 6 to 15 sessions helpful.

Both short-term and long-term options are available depending on your needs and preferences.

Fees and Rebates

Consultation Fees

Although the Australian Psychological Society recommends $318 for a 46-60 minute consultation, Mindspan Clinic has chosen to keep our fees well below this recommendation in the hope of making treatment more affordable for our clients.

  • Standard appointment (50 minutes): $260

  • After-hours (after 5pm) appointment (50 minutes): $280

The Medicare rebate available for each session is $145.25.

  • Letters, reports, and phone consultations: $130 per 25 minutes or $260 per 50 minutes. Note: These are not claimable through Medicare.

Payment is due at the time of the session. The practice only accepts debit or credit card payments, which are processed electronically. All major cards are accepted except Diners. To process fee payment, clients will be asked to complete a credit card authorisation form as part of the online intake form.

A referral is not required for an appointment at the practice, however, most clients are eligible to receive a rebate from Medicare. To receive this rebate, a referral letter and a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from a general practitioner, psychiatrist, or paediatrician is required.

With a MHTP, you can claim a Medicare rebate of $145.25 per session with a clinical psychologist, for up to 10 sessions per calendar year (from January 1st to December 31st).

Medicare rebates are processed by the practice at the same time as session fees. The rebate is paid directly to your bank account within 2-3 business days.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

We accept clients with self-managed and plan-managed NDIS funding.

  • For self-managed clients, sessions are charged at the standard session rate.

  • For plan-managed clients, sessions are charged at $232.99, as per the 2025-2026 NDIS price guide.

Private Health Insurance

If you are covered for psychological services under your private health fund, you are entitled to claim for these services. The claimable amount per session and the number of sessions per calendar year depends on your private health care plan. Please check with your health fund regarding your exact cover.

Unfortunately, we are unable to process transactions with private health insurance. However, you will be provided with an invoice at the end of each session, which you can use to organise rebates with your insurance provider.

Note: You cannot claim from Medicare and your private health fund for the same session.

Cancellation Fees

We understand that life gets busy and sometimes plans change. If you are no longer able to attend your appointment, we kindly ask for at least 48 hours' notice, so we can offer the time to someone else on our waiting list.

Last-minute cancellations and missed appointments mean that we are unable to fill the space, which impacts both the clinician's time and other clients needing support. For this reason, the following fees apply:

  • Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice will attract a 50% cancellation fee

  • Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice (including no-shows) will attract a 100% cancellation fee

Note: Cancellation fees cannot be claimed through Medicare or your private health fund.
