We embrace neuro-affirming practices to support and empower individuals with autism, ADHD, developmental delay, intellectual difficulties, and learning difficulties. Our approach celebrates the unique strengths and perspectives of each person and promotes self-acceptance, while also providing support and strategies for the areas that are difficult that you want to address. We accept self- and plan-managed NDIS funding for sessions, however, please inform us of your NDIS funding when contacting the practice.

The best way to find out whether we are able to assist you is by contacting us. If your difficulties lie outside of our areas of expertise, you will be assisted in finding the most appropriate service for referral.

Treatment Modalities

We draw from a number of evidence-based treatments in our work, depending on your concerns and preferences, including:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is one of the most extensively researched and widely used psychological interventions. It focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours, which in turn changes our emotional responses to challenging situations and enhances our healthy coping skills. â€‹

Trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT) is a specialised treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma, and their parents and caregivers. It integrates CBT principles with trauma-sensitive techniques to help the young person process and cope with traumatic experiences.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is a treatment approach based on CBT, but specifically adapted for individuals who feel emotions very intensely and have difficulties regulating these emotions.

DBT focuses on teaching skills in four key areas- mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. â€‹â€‹DBT aims to help individuals improve their emotion regulation, reduce self-destructive behaviours, and build a life worth living.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness involves the practice of being fully aware and engaged in the present moment, without judgment of one's experiences. Mindfulness is a core component of DBT and ACT, but can also be used as a helpful adjunct to other therapies, such as CBT.

Mindfulness techniques aim to increase self-compassion and help individuals become more aware and accepting of their internal thoughts, feelings, sensations, and behaviours, and their surrounding environment. â€‹â€‹

Schema Therapy

Schema therapy is a therapeutic approach that integrates elements of CBT, attachment theory, and experiential therapy. It focuses on identifying schemas (enduring patterns of thoughts, beliefs, emotions, memories, and behaviours), which typically develop in childhood and adolescence from unmet emotional needs and persist into adulthood. â€‹

Schema therapy aims to help individuals heal past wounds, meet their emotional needs in adaptive ways, break negative patterns, and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a type of psychotherapy that involves the practice of self-acceptance and mindfulness techniques, as well as committing to actions and goals that are aligned with one's values.

ACT aims to help individuals better manage difficult thoughts and feelings, reduce their impact and influence on them, and create rich and meaningful lives.

Parent Management Training

Parent management training (PMT) is a treatment approach aimed at helping parents develop effective strategies to manage their child's undesirable behaviour and difficulties such as oppositionality, defiance, and verbal and physical aggression.

PMT aims to improve the parent-child relationship and enhance appropriate and desirable behaviour at home, leading to a more peaceful and positive family environment.
